Many people have automatically assumed that the next generation iPhone is going to be called the iPhone 5G. However, we must all remember that Apple did not have an iPhone 2. They went from iPhone to iPhone 3. So, sequential numbering is not necessary when you look at Apple products. But, just like all the others out there, we think that Apple will indeed come out with a iPhone 5G as an iPhone 6 seems a little too premature now. Let us take a closer look at what we could expect to see in the Apple iPhone 5G model.
What will it be?
Here is a quick run down of all the iPhone 5G specs that everyone seems to be anticipating. You can read through some of the other iPhone 5 blog items to learn about some of these specs in more detail.
- iPhone 5G is expected to have a dual core processor with a minimum processing speed of 1.2Ghz
- The basic version of the iPhone 5G is rumored to have 64 GB of storage. Remember that the iPhone 5 is probably only going to be released in the second half of 2012. With the rate at which high capacity Android phones are coming out (with expandability options), it might become vital for Apple to make sure that customers are not complaining about storage space when they shell out $600 or $700 on an iPhone 5G.
- iPhone 5G is expected to be equipped with a 3D camera that will also have the ability to take panoramic views, by using an image stitching program that will stitch together many stills that are taken on a slow swivel. It sounds pretty cool.
- We honestly don’t know if the iPhone 5G will have an A6 processor or whether or not it will receive an upgrade to the iOS6 operating system. Apple have really complicated the expectations of customers by introducing the dual core A5 processor and the iOS5 in the iPhone 4S itself. So, customers are going to be wanting more.
- The iPhone 5G is rumored to have NFC enabled technology that will allow users to use their iPhones to pay for stuff or even open car doors with a wave of their iPhone 5. NFC technology will also allow cable less transfer of data between various Mac devices like the Mac Air, iPod and the iPad.
Is this what the 5G is going to look like?

Some rumors are suggesting that the iPhone 5G will have a Qwerty keyboard - Yikes! We hope that is not true
There have been so many people saying that the iPhone 5G will have a slide out Qwerty keyboard. We don’t know where they are coming from but it will be absolutely ridiculous for Apple to go from a touch screen to a phone that has both touch screen and a Qwerty keyboard. The iPhone became an iconic phone largely due to its touch functionality and we think that it will remain a full touch screen phone.

This iPhone 5G concept shows that the iPhone 5 could look like the iPhone 3G but with a larger screen that runs from edge to edge
We would really like to see the iPhone 5G looking like the design concept shown above. It looks classy and very iPhone like. Supposedly, the screen will be 4 or 4.2 inches in size and will have a great design where the screen runs from edge to edge, without the casing inhibiting the view of the screen.
This is one iPhone 5 design concept that has probably become very popular for all the wrong reasons. While some people like the radical square or rectangular design, I think it would be fair to say that the vast majority of iPhone lovers will think that it looks atrocious. The only squarish phone that is very popular now is the Nokia N8. We have to say that the Nokia N8 looks quite sophisticated although we just don’t know if the design will match an Apple product. Apple products have always stood out from the crowd when it comes to aesthetics and design.
When might the iPhone 5G come out?
We are all pretty clueless here. But, we can say for certain that there is going to be at least a 7 month wait, until June or July of 2012 before we seen the iPhone 5G. Apple would not release the iPhone 4S so late in 2011 if they were planning to release an iPhone 5 in early 2012. It could even be almost 11-12 months before the iPhone 5G is finally released into the market, during the fall or holiday season of 2012. We can only wait and see.
