When it comes to Android smartphones, users will usually have to choose between a 4 inch phone or a phone with a 4.5 inch screen. Some people just don’t like large screen phones, especially if they have small hands. People like that will like the HTC Wildfire S which is both small and affordable, while also having smartphone capabilities. Below, we will take a closer look at the HTC Wildfire S specs.

HTC Wildfire S specs

The Good

There are very limited choices when it comes to smartphones that have both good capabilities as well as a manageable size, with the HTC Wildfire S being one of the best choices in the market today. The phone runs on the Gingerbread Android operating system and also has HTC Touch interface running in the foreground. The current prices it is being offered at also make it a very good purchase or a value purchase.

The Bad

This is definitely not a phone for you if you have large hands. This is because things like typing is going to be difficult on the reduced screen size. Also, you will find browsing, sending emails and long texts to be a little annoying on this phone as the small screen size will have you scrolling a lot, especially if you used a 4 inch or 4.5 inch screen phone in the past.

Summary

Buy this phone if you are specifically looking for a smart sized phone that will have all the capabilities of other Android smartphones that are available in the market today. This phone will also be a good purchase for you if you are looking to spend the least amount of money possible, when purchasing a smartphone.

Design

The HTC Wildfire S specs, when it comes to design, present a smart sized package. The phone is just 4 inches tall and just 2.3 inches in width. Thickness is quite considerable at .49 inches. The weight is a lot lesser than the average weight of a regular smartphone, with the HTC Wildfire S weighing just 3.7 ounces. Some of the bigger phones can weight twice as much.

The HTC Wildfire S specs boast of some very nice elements that have been used to make the phone. The back of the phone is made out of a rubberized plastic kind of material that gives the phone a nice feel and look to it. It definitely does not look like some of the Samsung smartphones that look obviously plastic.

The HTC Wildfire S specs include a 3.2 inch screen that puts out 480X320 pixels in resolution. The screen hasĀ  HVGA display. Please note that this phone does not support video calling as it has only one camera in the back. It has a Micro USB port on the side apart from the usual volume keys, 4 Android default buttons at the bottom of the screen and a headphone jack on the top.

Miscellaneous features

The HTC Wildfire S specs include all the basic smartphone functions such as Bluetooth, 3G support, Wi-Fi, smart dialing features and also the ability to take basic voice commands.

Camera

The HTC Wildfire S specs include a 5MP camera that is equipped with an LED flash. For a 5MP camera, the picture quality is pretty decent. The camera did better outdoors than it did indoors. In low light settings, the images were flushed out with a very light bluish tint that did not look very good. Disappointingly, we encountered similar problems with the video quality as the camera struggled to capture video at good quality, when used indoors. The HTC Wildfire S specs include photo capture at a 640X480 pixel resolution.

The 5MP camera on the HTC Wildfire S takes pretty good outdoor snaps although performance is diminished with indoor snaps

Call quality

Call quality is pretty decent on this phone. Both speakerphone and regular speakers did a very good job of transmitting the voice on the other end of the phone, in pretty good quality. Our voice was also transmitted with minimal interference or background noise. Speakerphone quality was also very acceptable although we thought that the volume setting was just a little bit low on the speakerphone. It would have been nice if we were able to crank it up just a little bit more, to use the speakerphone in a noisy environment. But, no major complaints in the call quality department.

Processor and performance

The HTC Wildfire S specs include a 600 MHz processor. Interpreting the speed of this processor will depend on whether you are coming from a basic phone or whether you have already used a smartphone. If you have used a smartphone with a dual core processor or a processor with speeds in excess of 1GHz, the processor speed of the HTC Wildfire S might frustrate you. But, if you are trying a smartphone for the first time, in the form of the HTC Wildfire S, you will find the phone to be refreshingly fast. General navigation is very zippy. Some applications like camera activation can take just one or two seconds although the delay is not too awkward or annoying.

Battery life

The HTC Wildfire S specs claim that the phone can provide almost 7 hours of continuous talk time. However, we would say that the phone is usually hard pressed to deliver just 6 hours of continuous talk time. If you use the phone for a lot of browsing and calls, you might have to charge it well before the day runs out.

The HTC Wildfire S specs say that the phone uses a 1,230 mAh battery.

Conclusion

Depending on the carrier and where you buy this phone from, you might actually be able to get it for free (Contract price). For a low price or for a price tag of $0, this is a pretty power packed phone, with Android Gingerbread, 3G capability, decent 600MHz processor, nice 3.2 inch screen and an average 5MP camera.

This will be an ideal purchase for those who are trying to move from basic phones to a smartphone, if they do not want to get one of those super sized phones with 4 or 4.5 inch screens. It is also an attractive purchase for those who just don’t see the point in spending about $150 – $400 on a smartphone.
